How to look the part — Part Two

Making the switch from newbie to professional…

You’ve been at work for about a year… perhaps you started as an intern and then graduated to trainee. You’ve handled crises and worked hard on the daily stuff. So how do you get your peers and your seniors to consider you for the next level of growth. Maybe there’s an opening in your organisation, or maybe you are looking elsewhere. Either way you need to be seen as a young professional rather than as a entry level player…

Reading is a must

Business reading is an absolute must as a professional. Staying abreast of the latest economic trends, the business trends in your industry, and a general sense of what’s happening in the country, is critical to be perceived as an informed professional.

Some reading suggestions

From the daily papers including a business paper to specialist magazines such as The Economist, Fortune, Harvard Business Review, there are certain publications that should be read by all career-minded professionals.

There are also evergreen, popular business titles that should be read: ‘Who moved my Cheese’, ‘Blue Oceans Strategy’, ‘Rich Boy, Poor Boy’, and ‘From Good to Great’. There could also be other reads from your specific industry. This ensures that you can participate in a professional discussion, with an informed point of view.

Dressing for the role

Libas has long known that career women need ensembles that can support the varied professional roles they take on at work. The latest collection of outfits includes several outfits that can turn from competent professional to glamorous party-goer with just a few deft touches such as a stole or a pair of heels or an evening bag!
